Agriculture Cost Allocation and Month-End Close

The month-end allocation moves costs from intermediate centres to crops and other final cost objects. A reliable result depends on two inputs: complete source expenses and complete operational drivers. Reviewing both before the run is more effective than trying to explain an unexpected allocation afterward.

Allocation Engine shows the open period, waiting intermediate costs and run control Demonstration data.

Before you begin

Confirm the period, rule effective dates and completeness of source costs. Resolve missing water readings, area assignments and equipment hours. Review Solution Console → Health before processing.

Navigation: Top-right screen dropdown → Allocation Engine.

Procedure

  1. Check period cost, direct-to-final cost, waiting intermediate balance and run state.
  2. Review the waiting amounts by well engine, department, tractor and other asset. Investigate missing or unexpected balances.
  3. Confirm the rule sequence and drivers using the cost-centre guidance below and Solution Console.
  4. The close owner can use Run the month end after completing the approved close checks.
  5. Reconcile the result to source costs and identify any remaining intermediate balance or recorded rounding.
  6. Use Cost Drill-Down to validate the destination and source trail, then review Crop P&L and Accounting Impact.

Responsibilities and follow-up

The close review should explain where the period’s costs went, why they went there and whether any amount remains unresolved. Release crop-profitability reporting only after the relevant reconciliation is complete.

July example before a run

MeasureAmount
Total cost, all sourcesSAR 2,876,785
Posted directly to finalsSAR 1,731,992
Waiting on intermediatesSAR 1,144,793
Configured rules / cycles11 rules / 6 cycles

The waiting balance is grouped into well engines, departments, tractors, and vehicles/lines. Reviewing these categories before the run helps distinguish a source-data issue from an allocation-rule issue.

Important notes

The run was not executed during documentation. The run workspace shows Open, while analytical screens show computed example allocations. Confirm posting state and reversal behaviour in the configured account rather than using those demonstration displays as evidence of a completed production close.

Agricultural Cost Centres and Allocation Rules

Intermediate cost centres collect expenses until the allocation basis determines their final destination. A well engine, for example, can hold diesel, spares, depreciation and labour, but those elements need not follow the same driver. The Cost Object Network makes those relationships visible.

Cost Object Network connects intermediate centres and final cost destinations Demonstration data.

Before you begin

Confirm the period and cost element. Check that hectares, planted status, water readings and equipment hours are complete for the allocation period.

Navigation: Top-right screen dropdown → Cost Object Network.

Procedure

  1. Review the intermediate balance and configured rules.
  2. Follow the source and destination relationships in the network.
  3. Read the well example to distinguish water-driven costs from area-driven costs.
  4. Check each rule’s cycle, source, elements, basis and targets.
  5. Resolve missing drivers with operations and check configuration coverage in Solution Console → Health.
  6. Review the resulting destinations in Cost Drill-Down after the allocation calculation.

Responsibilities and follow-up

Finance can explain the basis of a crop charge, and operations can confirm whether the underlying driver represents actual use.

For Well W01, P001 and P003 each draw 59,583 m³ in the example; P002 is fallow and draws none. Diesel and consumables follow the water. Spares, depreciation and mechanic labour follow area, retaining the unplanted share as work in progress.

Important notes

Zero water use does not eliminate area-based costs. The unplanted share can remain in WIP. The four final families are a business grouping; allocation outputs also include WIP and rounding destinations.
