Packhouse Management, Grading and Spoilage

The packhouse review has three parts: account for the harvested weight, understand the saleable grade yield, and move ageing stock. The same screen also shows how the configured spoilage policy assigns loss between production and marketing.

Packhouse metrics show gross and Class 1 unit costs alongside the configurable spoilage policy Demonstration data.

Before you begin

Identify the lot and confirm harvested weight, grading results and storage locations. Obtain the approved spoilage policy. The two-day production window and 90% marketing share shown in the example are configuration defaults awaiting business confirmation.

Navigation: Top-right screen dropdown → Packhouse & Spoilage.

Procedure

  1. Read the Class 1 pack-out, gross unit cost, Class 1 unit cost and ageing-stock cards.
  2. Check the policy in force before reviewing the production and marketing loss split.
  3. Reconcile each lot’s harvested weight to Class 1, Class 2, rejects and spoilage.
  4. For each spoilage line, check days in store and the quantity assigned to production or marketing.
  5. Review The cold store, by age. Use pallet, SKU, room, row and column to locate rows marked dispatch first.
  6. Open Traceability & Recall to reconcile the lot with packed products, deliveries and remaining stock.

Responsibilities and follow-up

The packhouse should be able to explain every kilogram received. Logistics can then prioritise ageing pallets, and finance can assign the recorded loss under the approved policy.

Example: peach lot LOT-PCH-0714

Weight categoryKilograms
Class 127,700
Class 29,800
Rejects3,000
Spoilage1,500
Total harvested42,000

At the example policy, 900 kg spoiled after one day belongs to production. A further 600 kg after four days is divided into 60 kg production and 540 kg marketing. The policy assigns responsibility; it does not change the physical loss quantity.

Gross unit cost is approximately SAR 107,930 ÷ 42,000 = SAR 2.57/kg. Dividing the same production cost by 27,700 Class 1 kg gives approximately SAR 3.90/kg. This distinction matters when discussing the economics of premium-grade sales.

Important notes

Check the pack-out denominator. For peaches, the displayed 68.4% is 27,700 ÷ (42,000 − 1,500 spoiled); Class 1 divided by gross harvest is about 66.0%. The potato examples also require reconciliation: Packhouse shows 322,000 kg Class 1, while Traceability shows 320,000 kg packed. The policy control Turn the dial was not changed during this review.
